Project Goals
I was recently contacted by a developer who is completing a project at 11 Newcomb street in Roxbury (near Washington St and Ramsey Park). He is interested in working with MIT to do an adaptive micro housing test unit in a 400 square foot unit in his project. In addition, he also owns a parcel in the rear of the property which is adjacent to several properties owned by the BRA. He would be interested in purchasing if the BRA is willing to dispose. This could be an opportunity to leverage significant workforce affordability and/or pilot adaptive micro units if the test project succeeds.
The Department of Neighborhood Development acquires surplus and foreclosed property and is responsible for managing this real estate. We work to create housing and open space by making that land available to Bostonians over time through a public Request for Proposals process. This parcel of land is not yet planned for development, but stay tuned!
