Environmental Sanitation Division
Our mission is to protect the health and safety of the people of the City of Boston. This division is comprised of three sections: Rodent Control, Site Cleanliness, and Auto Shop Licensing and Enforcement.
We enforce state and city laws that protect the health and safety of the public. These codes help us protect public health by keeping Boston free of rodents, ensures bulk refuse is properly maintained and managed and promoting safety measures in auto shops.
The City of Boston’s Environmental Services Division Operates on Five Basic Principles:
- Public Education
- Improve Sanitation Practices
- Proactive Prevention
- Rapid Response
- Enforcement
Rodent Control
We conduct inspections to make sure there is no rodent infestation present on a property. When we get a complaint, we'll do a comprehensive inspection of the area. We look for signs of an infestation and try to find and eliminate food sources.
Site Cleanliness
The City of Boston Site Cleanliness Ordinance requires all businesses and residential locations that maintain bulk refuse apply for a license from the Boston Inspectional Services, Environmental Sanitation Division.
Auto Shop License
You need to get a license to run an auto shop or dealership in the City.
Environmental Sanitation
We are responsible for ensuring Boston is clean, sanitary and code compliant
Our division is charged with ensuring our environment is rodent free, environmentally safe and compliant with all applicable codes.
