For 15 months, five Boston artists have been working inside the very systems they want to change, addressing social justice issues and community needs. As restrictions fell into place and inequities were compounded by COVID-19, artists and their City partners shifted to a virtual setting and explored what their practices and civil service meant in this new landscape.

Hear from the artists and City partners as they reflect on their residencies during an unprecedented year of civil outrage in the arts and beyond at this virtual panel discussion on July 15 from 7 - 9 p.m. The event will be held on Zoom and also livestreamed to the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture Facebook page.

West Roxbury Movie Night: Wonka

Park's Movie Nights give residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy popular films under the night skies in City parks in August.

August 14, 2024

This fantasy musical film follows the story of Willy Wonka, the famous but eccentric chocolatier based on the character from Roald Dahl's novel. In particular, it emphasizes his rise to the top. The narrative traces his beginnings as a young adult who started as an employee selling chocolate in a store until he became driven to enter the chocolate industry eventually. This film acts as a prequel to the 1971 film adaptation of Dahl's novel. (Year: 2023; Rating: PG)

The series is hosted by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and title sponsor Bank of America with additional support from the Mayor’s Office of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment.

After three death-defying adventures defeating world-class villains with his unmatched courage and mad martial arts skills, Po, the Dragon Warrior, is called upon by destiny to...give it a rest already. More specifically, he's tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. That poses a couple of obvious problems. First, Po knows as much about spiritual leadership as he does about the paleo diet, and second, he needs to quickly find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can assume his new lofty position. (Year: 2024; Rating: PG)
