Hike Boston - Ranger Led Emerald Necklace Hike
Hike Boston is a week-day day-time hiking series where we invite you to join us for a walk in one of Boston's parks or urban wilds.
Boston Park Rangers, Urban Wilds staff, or Parks employees will provide formal and informal discussions or tours during the hikes. Some hikes may be more focused on taking a walk in the park, while others may be more informational.
Hikes will explore different wilderness or park areas of Boston. Hikes will take place primarily on unpaved paths. Programs will last about one hour and length may vary.
Ranger Evans and Ranger Smith will be leading a walking tour of a section of the Emerald Necklace starting at the JP boat house and making our way to the Back Bay Fens. This tour will explore the evolution of the Emerald Necklace from a patch work of farm land, indigenous lands and swamps to the parks we see and use today. We'll also be highlighting the local flora and fauna in these parks as well. This tour will meet at the Boat House in Jamaica Pond at 10am and will end in the Back Bay Fens spanning 3.5 - 4.5 hours in length (10am-2pm). It's recommended that participants bring comfortable shoes and lots of water. The rain date for this event will be the following Wednesday 7/3/24 with the same start/end location and times.
